Gannon is the son of an Enclave officer, born in Navarro in 2246. As a boy, he bore witness to the aftermath of the oil rig's destruction and suffered the loss of his father, who was killed on a combat mission away from the base. He was close with his mother and especially close with the Enclave Remnants, who became his de facto family when they were forced out of NCR territories eastward. He joined the Followers to find a peaceful application for his skills and eventually arrived in Freeside.

During the course of the game, you'll have the opportunity to acquire Gannon as a companion if you have the Confirmed Bachelor perk or by passing a speech check of 75. He will also take pity on a character with a very low intelligence stat and join you, remarking, "You sound like you really do need some help." It is also possible to aquire him as a companion if you have helped the Followers of the Apocalypse and gained a good reputation with them. When speaking to Arcade ask him if he wants any help and he will comment that whilst he does not need any help, the Courier has helped Julie Farkas. You then have the option to ask him if he will join you. If you already have a humanoid companion he will say yes, but you wont be allowed to get him. Once you have no humanoid companions, simply ask again if he needs any help. He will offer the same reply and accept your offer. Gannon is geared towards using the Medicine and Science skills. Arcade Gannon will refuse to join the Courier if they are in good standing with the Legion (accepted or above).

After shifting the balance between factions and exploring several locations that trigger memories of his days with the Enclave (see quest page for details), Arcade will offer the quest For Auld Lang Syne to reunite the members of his father's old squad in order to have them render assistance in the upcoming battle at Hoover Dam. Alternately, you can travel with other companions until just before the Hoover Dam battle, then pick up Gannon and he will offer the quest immediately.

During this quest he will open up further with the player, revealing snippets of personal information that he otherwise would keep hidden. The Gannon of Van Buren was an Enclave infantryman operating in the Midwestern United States. At some point he deserted the Enclave and joined the Followers of the Apocalypse in Hoover Dam. In Burham Springs, he could identify the Poseidon Energy logos denoting the AGRICOLA lab.

One of the more tragic characters, there are many ways in which Gannon's ultimate fate can turn out to be the worst of the worst.

Arcade's default ranged weapon is a Plasma Defender, which has a high Damage rating. As such it may be difficult to get him to equip Plasma Rifles or Laser weapons that are lower-damage, but better suit your preferred tactics. The player must visit various locations to recruit 5 old members of the Enclave to aid in the final battle at Hoover Dam.

Note: These five members can be killed, be careful should you run into them beforehand, or this quest cannot be completed.

Guess Who I Saw Today will need to be completed before Henry will agree to go to the Remnant's Bunker. Once all 5 remnants are convinced, head to the bunker to instruct them as to which side to support in the battle. The passphrases each remnant gives the player upon recruiting them will be used to open the bunker's main door. The player needn't remember them or unscramble them, once you've sent all 5 there the full sentence is there as a conversation option when you interact with the entry terminal.

Upon entering the bunker, head to the briefing room in the back and talk to Judah. You will then have to make a choice: have the Remnants support the NCR or Caesar's Legion in battle.

Even if you are working with Mr. House or Yes Man, those quest lines still need them to side with the NCR. if you ask them to side with the NCR, Orion Moreno will leave because he bears a strong hatred towards them. If you leave the briefing room and talk to him in the hangar, you can convince him to stay and fight with a Speech score of 80. If you cannot do that, you will have to fight and kill him as he will immediately turn hostile. You can also tell him, with a high enough NCR infamy, that you do just as much bad as good for the NCR. Regardless of how you handled that situation, Judah will tell you to talk to Daisy for Power Armor training and can use the armor you can loot off of Orion (if you killed him) or Daisy's, as she says it makes the cockpit too crowded if she's wearing it.

Should you ask them to side with the Legion, Cannibal Johnson will leave and there is no way to convince him to stay. You can then talk to Orion Moreno for training in Power Armor and will get Johnson's suit since he didn't take it when storming out.

Judah will ask you to head on out and finish up your business while they plan their attack. When the battle at the dam takes place, they will be dropped in by the Vertibird and battle whichever side you had them fight against. When you leave the bunker, Arcade should approach you and ask what you think he should do. He wonders if he should aid the remnants in battle and follow in his father's footsteps, or stay out and make his own path. If you pass a speech check of 80 and remind him of his duty to Freeside each time he talks to you about the Remnants, then have him not join the remnants he will give you his father's Tesla Armor and helmet. No matter which option you choose, this will complete the quest and will cause you to permanently lose Arcade as a companion.

If you are working with Yes Man or Mr. House, then during the battle of the dam you may have to fight the Remnants if you recruit them as there is no option for them to support you. Although, if you pass a high speech check to the guards in the control room convincing them to leave, then remnants (and all NCR troopers as well) won't turn hostile. Cannibal Johnson and/or Dr. Henry will follow and assist you on the attack to the Legate's Camp. Johnson will sometimes follow you into the camp as if he were a companion and aid you in killing Lanius.

At least one player exhibited that the above pre-quest events do not need to take place. This player sided with Legion and their first trip into the Lucky 38 was after destroying the Securitron Vault to kill House for Caesar. After said player destroyed the Securitron Vault, killed Mr. House, and repaired Legion's howitzer, he talked to Yes Man for the first time in The Tops. He then went to the Lucky 38 and allowed Yes Man to upload himself to House's network. After Yes Man upgraded the Securitrons, the quests Don't Tread on the Bear! and the Legion equivalent began. The player then used the elevator to return to the casino level. Upon having Arcade follow him again, Arcade immediately offered the quest.
