Lillian Marie Bowen (aka Lily), born in 2078, is a 202 year old nightkin living in Jacobstown in 2281. She can be used as a test subject for the Mark II Stealthboy, and when she's your companion she gives the perk called Stealth Girl that increases Stealth Boy duration by 100% and increases damage dealt when performing a sneak attack by 10%. Lily seems to think that she is still a grandmother to several grandchildren and will mistake the Courier as one of her grandchildren during their first meeting (and continues to throughout their travels together).

Background

Though she now lives a peaceful life tending to bighorners in the community of Jacobstown, Lily was once a Nightkin in the Master's army. Before that, she was an elderly grandmother enjoying a simple life in Vault 17. Heavily medicated, Lily struggles with her dangerous schizophrenia and distant memories of her old life.

When you go to Jacobstown and take the Guess Who I Saw Today quest you will have the opportunity to recruit Lily as a companion. Lily is geared towards sneaky characters; she's most adept at Melee Weapons. She also seems to be amazingly quick and agile during battle.

When Lily is a companion, if she is reduced to half of her hit points, she will suffer a "psychotic break" and will be in aggressive mode until it fades. The player is unable to give Lily commands or interact with her until this break subsides.

At a certain point, if Lily is the active Companion, the player may begin to hear a recording of children greeting their grandmother. This signals the start of Lily's unmarked quest. (The recording may sometimes trigger even when Lily is NOT the active companion, but is instead waiting at the Lucky 38. In this case only a close proximity to the player is required... this has been confirmed with Boone as the active companion)

The playback of the recording of her grandchildren occurs when the following conditions are all satisfied:

To complete the quest, the player must listen to the entire recording and then open a dialogue with Lily. After asking her several questions and discovering that she has only been taking half the recommended dosage of her medicine, the player is given three choices:

Recommend that Lily begin taking the complete dosage. If this option is chosen, Lily will stop suffering psychotic breaks altogether, but will suffer some permanent combat penalties - these remain in effect regardless of her mental state.

Lily can be very picky about what weapons she will use. She will not use any Unique weapons, nor will she equip a Thermic Lance or Chainsaw. She will equip a Super Sledge or Rebar club, both of which are slightly superior to her Vertibird Sword.

Lily will mistake you for one of her grandchildren, whether you are male or female. Although the courier will tell her he is not related to her at all in anyway she still mistakes you for a relative. It is unknown what happened to her real grandchildren although it is most likely that they were turned into Super Mutants as well. It is not revealed if they survived the process.

Even though she hints at wanting a "Chopper" when you speak with her, giving her the unique weapon won't replace her vertibird-blade sword as her melee weapon.

When sneaking Lily will constantly (and ironically rather loudly,) remind the player that she knows how to be quiet. (To be in a matter of fact Lily cannot "sneak" but it would be more useful to tell her to wait at a certain place then sneak.)

Occasionally if you wait in the wasteland. At one point a holotape will play, do not be alarmed. It is Lily Bowen playing one of her tapes from the last time she visits her grandkids. You should also get the option to adjust how often she takes her pills.
